Expanding Home Visiting
  • Home visiting and parenting education programs help to build protective factors that
✅ reduce the risk of abuse and neglect
    ✅ strengthen family relationships
    ✅ promote children’s healthy development.
    That’s why we need #FamilySupportNC! #ThinkBabiesNC
  • There are 358,000 infants and toddlers in NC who could benefit from home visiting, but programs currently serve less than 1% of all children in the state. Many communities have no access to programs at all. #FamilySupportNC #ThinkBabiesNC
  • Home visiting offers a huge return on investment. Every $1 saves NC nearly $6 by preventing expensive problems like child abuse, unemployment, poverty, and crime. It’s a win for babies, families, communities, and our state’s economy! #FamilySupportNC #ThinkBabiesNC
  • Home visitors are providing a bridge to families for concrete and emotional supports during the COVID-19 pandemic. In NC, only 1% of families that could be served are, and in rural counties there are even fewer supports available. #FamilySupportNC #ThinkBabiesNC
  • Families of color often face systemic barriers in accessing health care, affordable housing, stable employment, & other needs. Home visiting/parenting education can help eliminate racial disparities in the health & wellbeing of children & families. #FamilySupportNC #ThinkBabiesNC
  • Parents play the lead role in their children’s healthy development, but all parents are stretched in those early months and years. Parenting education programs can help parents learn skills to mitigate stress and support their babies’ growth & learning. #FamilySupportNC #ThinkBabiesNC

Paid Family and Medical Leave
  • The first weeks and months of a child’s life are critical to development. #PaidLeave during that early period can have positive effects on relationship-building, parental involvement, health, and well-being that last throughout a child’s life. #ThinkBabiesNC
  • Very few employees in NC have #PaidLeave, and many who have access to unpaid leave like #FMLA can’t afford to take it. This is why 1 in 4 mothers return to work just 2 weeks after giving birth. #ThinkBabiesNC
  • The infant and maternal mortality rates in NC are 2-3 X higher for Black babies. #PaidLeave improves health outcomes for babies and their moms and is a powerful tool to help reduce inequities that begin even before birth. #ThinkBabiesNC
  • Women are leaving the workforce in record numbers due to job loss and #ChildCare challenges during #COVID19. It’s time for all women and parents to be able to take the time they need to care for their families without risking their job. #ThinkBabiesNC #PaidLeave
  • The lack of #PaidLeave policies disproportionately impacts Black and Latinx families and babies, especially during #COVID19. We need comprehensive paid family and medical leave for ALL parents to be able to care for their babies and families. #ThinkBabiesNC
  • We’re fighting for #PaidLeave for everyone in NC because it’s good for babies, good for families, and good for supporting a strong, equitable, and resilient economy. Everybody wins when we put babies & families first. #ThinkBabies #PaidLeave4All
